The Consequences of gay marriage

Prop8 decision day.

04 Aug

And NOM is suspiciously silent. No tweets, no blog posts.

The Pro-Prop8 side has already filed for a stay pending appeal.

If the Prop8 decision goes the way I expect it will, I look forward to debuting a new award for Maggie.

Tolerance… and the lack there of.

02 Aug

Maggie and NOM’s latest theme is to cast themselves as the victims of intolerance at the hands of gay activists. They are accusing gay activists of being unable to have a civil debate. Before I go further in this post, I’ll say this to Maggie and NOM.  You’re entitled to your own opinions. You’re not entitled to your own facts.

One of the big things that gets us so riled up Maggie is that you just make shit up for your debates. It’s impossible to have a civil debate with someone when that person can’t even get the basic background facts right.

Try having a civil debate with someone who’s logic sounds like “If she weighs as much as a duck, then she’s made of wood, and therefor, A WITCH!”

One of the things NOM and Maggie go on about is how marriage is “for the children”. We don’t disagree with this point. What we disagree with is that heterosexual marriage is the only way to raise children. Children can and are raised many different situations turn out well balanced and adjusted. Our own President Obama was raised mostly by his maternal grand parents….. like his politics or not, you can’t say that he hasn’t done well for himself.

NOM and Maggie appear to be trapped in some sort of binary universe. According to NOM, if gays are allowed to get married, suddenly marriage and child rearing would be unavailable to heterosexual couples.  …. If she weighs as much as a duck.

NOM and Maggie claim that their marriage fight is for the sake of making sure children have both a mom and a dad. Now lets get into some numbers here.  We have to be careful here because numbers confuse NOM. Assuming the percentage of gay people in the U.S. is 10% (any reduction in this number would only further my point, so don’t do it), That means there are around 35 million gay people living in the U.S.  Lets again assume that 50% of those are coupled in long term relationship (way high, but again reducing this number furthers my point). That means there are 875,000 same sex couples in the U.S…..   then she’s made of wood!

On those assumptions, those gay couples in a long term relationship would have to produce 2 children (via whatever non-adoptive method you can think of) per year, every year just to keep up with the 1.7 million births per year to unwed mothers in this country. In fact, assuming those 875,000 long term gay couples started producing 2 children per year (an absurd amount even for most straight couples) it would take nearly 25 years before gay couples to catch up to the 28.8 million children living in single parent households. So even if you hold that same sex, married, parents are some how not as good as opposite sex, married, parent (they’re really not), one must at least admit that two married parents is greater than one unmarried parent regardless of the genders of the parents…. and therefore?

So, clearly NOM and Maggie have some other agenda against gay people.  They shroud their hate of gays with “concern for the children”.  If NOM’s stated goal, making sure children have a mother and father, were actually true, they would be going after sex out of wedlock and trying to ban divorce.  That would put Maggie in a rather uncomfortable position because, she herself was an unwed mother.   .… a WITCH!

It’s not that gay activists are intolerant of other views, it’s that gay activists are intolerant of lies and Monty Python like logic. When someone continuously asserts that the only way to get the number 10 is by adding 3 + 4… eventually you have to raise your voice to try and correct them.

Just remember, Maggie is the victim here…

This sign was being carried by one of NOM’s followers in Indianapolis, IN. Hat tip to

Update: You can now sign a petition to tell the National Organization for Marriage to repudiate these threats of lynching directed at gay couples.

I agree with NOM on something….

21 Jul

Barely a week into this and I agree with NOM on something. This doesn’t bode well.

NOM is reporting that thousands are supporting the University of Illinois professor who was fired for teaching the Catholic Churches position on homosexuality during a “History of the Catholic Church” class.

Well NOM, you can enjoy this one while it lasts.  NOMTaunts officially agrees with your position on this one. It would be crazy to expect a professor to teach otherwise.  While we disagree with the Church’s position on homosexuality (and really, people who live in stained glass houses shouldn’t be throwing stones), we cannot deny the fact that they hold that position.

I think this student’s outrage was misdirected. He shouldn’t be directing his outrage at the Professor. He should be directing it at the Vatican.

And really, what did this student expect? If you’re a Cleveland Browns fan and you walk into a Pittsburgh Steeler’s sports bar, you should expect to be offended.

NOM is proud of their new fake family Hate bus

19 Jul

NOM has been posting photos of their new bus they’re taking on Hate Tour 2010.  It’s sides are plastered with images of happily (presumably married) couples. Only one problem….. they aren’t real families. points out that all of the families pictured on the side of Hate Bus 2010 are actually from a website call

Apparently, NOM believes that marriage is between one stock photo man and one stock photo woman.

Apparently we punish those who disagree with us.

19 Jul

In a post yesterday, NOM points to an article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune that asks this question:

Same-sex marriage supporters assure us that redefining marriage is no big deal.  “How will my same-sex marriage hurt you?” they ask, expecting the answer to be “it doesn’t.” Don’t believe it.

Well, knowing this, I wasn’t surprised when I announced my engagement last January that of the 5 married co-workers who sit next to me at work, 5 of them immediately called up their lawyers and filed for divorce.  What was shocking though was that I don’t even live in a state where gay marriage is legal. They had all assumed that since they lived in a state where gay marriage was not yet approved, their heterosexual marriages would be safe.

The reality of course is that none of that is true. None of my co-workers have filed for divorce. NOM states that marriage is for making babies… well my heterosexual co-workers have been fulfilling their duties admirably. Of the 5 married co-workers that I sit next to, they have a total of 21 children and one on the way (ok, one of the co-workers has 12 kids, but still)

There is simply no way that gays getting married could put an end to that.

The rest of the article goes on to describe how we gays will punish the NOM crowd. But all of their points boil down to “if we accept public funds, we can no longer preach our hate! Boo hoo!”
